DigiNøltar enters a new age of digital services with IPv6

DigiNøltar is pleased to announce that all services are now fully reachable over IPv6, in accordance with the recently published specification RFC 2460.

The internet has long been aware that IPv4 address space is finite. The exhaustion of available addresses has been a known and ignored concern since the early 1990s. Transition mechanisms, workarounds, and stopgap solutions have proliferated in the intervening years. Through careful strategic planning and an acute awareness of industry trends, DigiNøltar has concluded that the appropriate response is to simply support IPv6.

This positions DigiNøltar ahead of a number of organizations whose scale and technical resources one might otherwise consider substantial: GitHub, Amazon, ING and NS. One does not wish to draw conclusions about the relationship between punctuality and protocol adoption, but the data is noted.

DigiNøltar does not consider this an achievement so much as a correction. RFC 2460 was published before many of DigiNøltar's competitors had finished planning their IPv4 infrastructure. The standard has been available. The address space has been available. DigiNøltar has now made itself available on it.

Both DigiNøltar recursive resolvers now carry IPv6 addresses. Customers wishing to reach them over IPv6 will need to update their DNS configuration accordingly. The current resolver addresses, including the new IPv6 entries, are listed on the usage page. Operators using the typical setup guides are advised to revisit their configuration.
